Film Stills, Free Films, Time Bandits, Butt Bandits

1. The Film Stills community on LiveJournal is great. People are so hardworking. If you like browsing high-quality stills from such films as Jacob’s Ladder, Legally Blonde or Rekopis znaleziony w Saragossie (eh??), this is the place. No, really, it’s kind of addictive.

2. Joox. Am I the last person to hear about this? Free online movies and TV shows — fast streaming — great quality. Some of these flicks are so fresh, it can only be a matter of time before the copyright police crack down. ‘Til then I’ll be watching A Clockwork Orange, The Departed and Ratatouille. They’ve got pristine eps of tons of shows, too. Now I have another chance to commit to season 2 of Heroes.

3. Insights from Gay Sci-Fi Nerds.co.uk podcast #18: Japanese people get worked up when they’re watching a Hollywood movie that depicts Tokyo’s geography incorrectly; Calypso is the goddess of the sea; Even British people don’t know whether to say “shit” or “shite.” Still, if you’re a gay geek… um… so are these guys.

4. This week’s nominee for the Obsessive Fans Making A Difference Award: A Time Bandits fan is selling meticulous recreations of the map from the movie. They’re $90 and printed on canvas using a “print process that is archival for decades under normal viewing conditions.” (Insert time-travel joke here. “Depends what you mean by ‘decades.’” “Preservation guarantee nullified if map used in dimension-jumping.” HAW!!) I also learn from TWATEOTU, source of the above info, that they’re making a movie out of that book The Time Traveller’s Wife. And they’re filming it here in Chi-town! And yet I’ve seen no sign of glittering stars Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana. I did once see a team shooting a scene for Cupid (which may soon be resuscitated, FYI) on Michigan Ave., though. But no Jeremy Piven.
