Fullmetal Alchemist Yakety Sax

This post is pretty much only interesting if you’re into Fullmetal Alchemist. If you’re not, here’s a Children of the Corn clip instead.

I couldn’t decide between the following two FMA Saxes. For one thing, they use a lot of the same clips. Like, a LOT of the same clips. It’s kind of weird, actually. And yet, each has unique drawbacks.

“Crazy Ed!” is paced really well, but most of the clips have subtitles (is this just my own hangup?). More importantly, even though the creator used clips from the desert scene in ep 1, s/he didn’t use the bit where Ed chases Al in a circle! The hell? It’s a chase song, people! Sheesh!

Then we have “You Crazy Alchemist.” Great video quality. But some of the clips are less than thrilling and, more problematic, the creator didn’t pay any attention to pacing.

Also of note here, though, are the end credits. You can barely read them, which is hilarious considering that they’re totally extraneous anyway. Also, the credits conclude with this ennobling aphorism:

Life is futile yet we still thrive
^__^

Hahahaha!! Emotastic. I think the creator may actually think that’s all profound and stuff. And the emoticon just gives it that extra “oomph,” doesn’t it? I’m so happy.

Actually, I’m not wild about either of the above Saxes. After listening to the song so much this week, I’ve gotten more sensitive to its use of transitions and distinct segments (that’s the musicological term, right?). It’s actually not as chaotic as it sounds at first. Both of these folks threw together a bunch of high-energy clips without matching them up to the song very well (though, as I said, the top one is a lot better.)

Jeez, can you tell I’m a Fullmetal Alchemist fan or what? Let me know if you’d like to hear more and more and more about this topic.
